THE MOST CRITICAL MACRONUTRIENTBy Dan Jimenez, Co-owner/Coach There is one critical macronutrient (Macro) to focus on whether you want Fat Loss, OR Muscle Gain. And…… it’s NOT Carbs! It’s like the “magic pill”, or “Pareto’s Principle” where 80% of your results will come from 20% of your efforts. Here it is... Protein.
Why? Sooooo many reasons. But bottom line, protein is both the building block of muscle and muscle recovery, AND requires more energy to process (think calories burned). “Ok, so then what’s the magic number I should shoot for?” Well, it depends. But here’s a number you can’t go wrong with: “1 gram per pound of bodyweight.” Ex) I weigh 205lbs. I shoot for 205g of protein per day. Sound like too much? That’s ok. If you can hit within 80-85% of that, you’ll be fine. But, It’s better to aim high and miss, than aim low and hit. So shoot for that 1g per pound and you’ll be golden.
